Arctic Winter Surviva

          Learn the fundamentals of what it takes to survive outdoors in extreme winter conditions. Discover what it takes to survive a Canadian winter in an emergency situation. On this course you will sharpen your bushcraft skills and learn about practical and useful survival skills that will prepare you in case of a winter outdoor emergency. Experience an amazing five day outdoor experience in a remote Yukon setting. Participants will focus on theory, outdoor awareness, northern bushcraft as well as being properly prepared, and the required skills to survive outdoors during the winter. We cover such concepts as improvising survival shelters, making survival fires, how to set basic snares, ice fishing, orientation and travel by snowshoe. Learn in-sider tricks and techniques to keep you alive, as well as a lot of practical bushcraft knowledge that can be applied to a wide variety of outdoor activities. You will have the opportunity to put new skills in use by building a shelter in which you will stay overnight.

Daily Itinerary
DAY 1
SURVIVAL

Meet and greet, introduction to your instructor(s). We spend half a day in an indoor classroom in order to cover several topics and theories in regards to outdoor survival. This includes such things as dangers, preparedness, equipment, survival priorities and methods of self rescue. In the afternoon we transfer outside and set up our base camp and outdoor class room as we spend the first day practicing several of the concepts covered during the morning.

DAY 2
BUSHCRAFT

We continue with the topics started on the previous day. Today we cover such topics as survival fires, hatchet and ax craft, building improvised shelters, Edible and medical food sources, basic snaring, making cordage. The emphasis of today is on developing practical and useful survival, bushcraft, and outdoor skills.

DAY 3
NAVIGATION

Today we covers basic and more advanced orienteering. This includes navigation using compass, GPS, maps, and natural methods. Participants are introduced to traveling using snowshoes and concepts of traveling in extreme conditions in the outdoors in general including dangers, snow, avalanche and water dangers, as well as what to consider in winter travel. We also cover improvising and building your own snowshoes in survial situations.

DAY 4
SHELTER

Shelter building including quincys, Igloos, tarp shelters and other improvised shelter constructions. Tonight, there is the opportunity to sleep in your very own survival shelter.

DAY 5
FISHING

Introduction to winter Ice-fishing. We spend the day practicing ice-fishing on one of the local lakes. Participants will learn who to set up a basic ice fishing camp as well as the basics of preparing and cleaning fish in a survival context. End of course program.
